GOOD RESPONSE TO CUBA-JAMAICA LIGHT BULB PROJECT

The final phase of the distribution of Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) under the Cuba-Jamaica Light Bulb Project has been met with good response by a number of persons who have expressed appreciation for the energy saving bulbs.

According to Dennis Miller, Leader of the Ministry of Energy and Mining’s distribution team, there was a good response from the residents particularly in Patrick Gardens, where over three thousand (3,000) bulbs were distributed to that community on the second day (Sunday, March 27, 2011).

Under the final phase of the programme, approximately 12,000 bulbs have been distributed within the North West St. Andrew constituency, which includes the communities of Maverley, Hughenden, Meadowbrook/Havendale, Patrick City and Pembroke Hall.

The Distribution Team has been working in collaboration with the Social Development Commission (SDC) and the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) to mobilize communities. Towncriers, flyers and various community organizations have been employed to alert residents of the date, time and location of distribution within their communities.
The team will next stop at the Barney and Lloyd Community Centre in Kitson Town and Ebony Vale, St. Catherine tomorrow (Tuesday, March 29, 2011).
